The Montsec Astronomical Observatory opens its doors to the public
At 1,570 meters, the Montsec Astronomical Observatory (OAdM) is located in one of the most suitable areas on the European continent for astronomical observation, thanks to the combination of weather conditions and the low effect of light pollution.
The ATTRACT Consortium grants funding to develop a new hybrid detector
The team of engineers and researchers from the Institute of Cosmos Sciences (IEEC-ICCUB), led by David Gascón, has been granted an ATTRACT grant to develop an integrated signal processing for a new generation of active hybrid single photon sensors.
Gaia DR2 bulk catalogue available in FAPEC format
The Gaia group at the Universitat de Barcelona (IEEC – ICCUB), in cooperation with DAPCOM Data Services S.L. (a technological spin-off company of the UPC and the UB), has published an alternative copy of the bulk data files from Gaia DR2 – the second data release from Gaia.
Forum IEEC 2019

Ignasi Ribas awarded with the Premi Ciutat de Barcelona
Ignasi Ribas, IEEC Director and CSIC Scientific Researcher at the Institute of Space Sciences, has been awarded with the 2018 Premi Ciutat de Barcelona in its Experimental Sciences and Technology category.
Meeting a neighbour: the discovery of Barnard b
We recently announced the discovery of a candidate super- Earth planet around Barnard’s Star. The planet was found using nearly 800 radial velocities from seven different spectrographs in a large observational effort spanning over 20 years. Because of its proximity, at only 6 light years, Barnard b has potential for further characterisation, including direct imaging.
